Quotes can be a small, but very important part of an article. They are however, useless if not used properly. This page will show you how to add quotes effectively to articles.

Where should quotes go?Edit

Quotes are usually best placed at the beginning of an article or section. It is okay to add them to the middle of a paragraph, but this should usually only be done when the article is referring directly to the quote.

What quotes should I use?Edit

Use quotes that are relavant to the subject. For instance, in an article about a rider, at the top you might put a quote by someone else "summing up" the rider's life. When adding quotes to sections, you should try and use quotes that relate to that specific section. For instance, in a section about a specific event in a rider's life, you might put a quote by them reflecing on that event.

How do I add quotes?Edit

Any quote on the Motorcycle Wiki should have a source. If there is no source, the quote may be removed. If the source for a quote you are adding is not available online(a book or other printed work) use the {{quote}} template. If the source is available online, use the {{quote2}} template.

Using the {{quote}} templateEdit

Find an appropriate place to put the quote in an article and then add the following code:

{{quote|the quote|the person who said it|source}}

For the source, add the name of the work the quote is from.

ExampleEdit

Say you found a quote about someone named Bob. The quote was "When I won the championship, it felt great." It was said by Bob, and had been found in the book "The Life and Times of Bob" you would add the following code:

{{quote|When I won the championship, it felt great.|Bob|The Life and Times of Bob}}

The code would produce:

"When I won the championship, it felt great."
—Bob, The Life and Times of Bob

Using the {{quote2}} templateEdit

For online sources, add the following code:

{{quote2|the quote|the person who said the quote|external link|name of source}}

For external link, add the actual URL of the source.

ExampleEdit

Say you found a quote about Bob.

  • The quote was said by Bob's friend, Joe.
  • It went "Bob is the greatest."
  • You found it at the URL http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob/
  • The name of the website you found it on was wikipedia.

You would add the following code:

{{quote2|Bob is the greatest.|Joe, on Bob|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob/|wikipedia}}

it would produce:

"Bob is the greatest."
—Joe, on Bob [src]
